Extremism: Greens: Ten-point plan against right-wing extremism

The Berlin Greens see a growing problem with right-wing extremism in the city and accuse the Senate, made up of the CDU and SPD, of not doing enough to combat it. In a motion for the House of Representatives, the Greens are calling for the implementation of ten concrete measures. They justify this by writing that there is a “massive social shift to the right” and, as a result, an “increase in violence and brutalization of political culture.

Reactions are needed that are “more than just symbolic in nature,” said Green MP Ario Mirzaie and his group. “Effective measures are now needed to protect democracy, intensify the prosecution of right-wing crimes and strengthen civil society in the fight against right-wing extremism.”

The demands include expanding prevention in cooperation with science. “This is important in order to understand why people turn to neo-Nazis and fascists and what makes them particularly susceptible to right-wing extremist ideologies.” This also includes promoting exit counseling and deradicalization programs.

The police and the judiciary must take tougher action against even minor crimes and prosecute them more quickly. The corresponding acts of right-wing extremists must also be recorded more accurately in statistics. Hate and incitement on the Internet must also be punished consistently. Gun owners should be more closely monitored and the illegal arms trade should be combated.
