Fashion Week: Fashion in Milan: From superheroines to floral splendor

At Prada, every woman should be a superhero: That was the message that the Italian fashion company left behind on Thursday at Milan Fashion Week. The women’s collections for the spring/summer 2025 season will be presented there until Monday.

Above all, every woman is unique, because hardly any look at Prada’s fashion show was like any other. The models paraded dynamically through the rows of seats. They wore a mix of different styles and eras. Their skin-tight pants were reminiscent of superheroines like those found in comics. Metallic surfaces reflect the digital world. The flood of information, the algorithms of the Internet, which give everyone their own reality, were the starting point for this collection for Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the label’s creative duo, as they explained in the accompanying text.

This resulted in looks like this: a yellow sports parka is worn with a dress with mirrored surfaces – and a bandeau top with a flap pocket with very wide trousers. There are hot pants and knitted elements, various skirt shapes and short leather coats, floral decorations and metal rings, strong and neutral colors, striking shoes and extravagant sunglasses. “We see a superhero in every woman, with her own power, her own story,” is how Raf Simons summed up the idea behind this collection.

Neutral colours at Max Mara, floral motifs at Etro

Clear shapes and neutral colors, on the other hand, characterize the new fashion from Max Mara. Coats – the origin and trademark of the Italian label – are given a lot of length and volume and are waisted with a narrow belt. White blouses with wide cuffs and ribbed knit elements (skirts, tops) are basic elements of the looks. Asymmetries and slits loosen up the monochrome surfaces.

At Etro, the flowers were already in bloom on Wednesday evening. Floral motifs are one of the defining elements of the collection. In his latest work, creative director Marco De Vincenzo combines feminine, sometimes frivolous sensuality with sporty elements. He also creates contrasts in the materials, showing knitwear and denim alongside silk, chiffon and lace. Dresses sometimes end in flounces, many tops end well before the stomach. The colors are, typically for Etro, rich and strong, but not garish.

In the coming days, more top Italian fashion names will be on the program for Milan Fashion Week. Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Versace will be presenting their latest women’s collections, among others.
