Fighting to right a wrong for public employees

Fighting to right a wrong for public employees

As a new member of Congress, I got to work on fixing a problem that has been around since 1983. That’s why one of the first pieces of legislation I co-sponsored was the Social Security Fairness Act. It’s aimed at repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) and is critical toward ensuring fairness for retirees.

I believe in promoting individual responsibility, rewarding hard work, and ensuring that Americans are not penalized for a lifetime of service to our nation. Both WEP and GPO unfairly reduce Social Security benefits for public employees, particularly teachers, police officers, and firefighters who rely on government pensions.

As conservatives in Congress, we champion fiscal responsibility, but also prioritize fairness. Repealing these outdated provisions will not only restore rightfully earned benefits to hard-working Americans but also bolster trust in the Social Security system. The federal government should not penalize those who dedicated their careers to public service. The Social Security Fairness Act is a necessary correction to decades of unfairness, ensuring that all Americans receive the retirement benefits they deserve. When this legislation reaches the House floor, I will proudly stand with our public servants who assist the communities we call home.
