Accidents and natural disasters: Both the police and the fire service reported the fire shortly after 10pm on Monday evening.
– We received many calls from people in the area. The first report came at 10.09 pm and indicated that there was a heavy fire in a commercial building in the center of Lillestrøm, says duty manager Hans Erik Tysdal in the East 110 central to NTB.
Residents in the area are encouraged to stay inside and keep windows closed.
The building in which it is burning must be the premises of a former car wash. No one has been reported injured. There is also no immediate danger of spread, says Tysdal.
– It is a detached building, but it is not very far from the nearest neighboring house. We have seven fire engines on site and have started extinguishing.
– We expect to be on site for quite some time to come, he adds.
The police have chosen to close roads and regulate traffic in the area. They write that it is not desirable to have more cars nearby.
