VfL Wolfsburg has achieved its first win of the season in the women’s football Bundesliga. The German cup winners won 1-0 (0-0) against newly promoted FC Carl Zeiss Jena after a tough game.
For the Wolfsburg women, it was the first game since the surprising contract extension with their coach Tommy Stroot. In May, the club announced that the 35-year-old would be leaving VfL after this season.
Alexandra Popp scored the goal of the day in the 67th minute. After a corner kick by Lynn Willms, the national player directed the ball with her heel from the five-meter area into the goal of the host Thuringians.
