Florian Kohfeldt will be the new coach of SV Darmstadt 98, succeeding the resigned Torsten Lieberknecht. The second division football club announced the agreement with the 41-year-old, who is to be presented on Monday. Kohfeldt is bringing Martin Heck with him to Böllenfalltor as assistant coach.

“He brings experience, personality and the know-how to give our team stability and to tap into its potential,” said sporting director Paul Fernie about the new coach of the second-to-last team. “Florian convinced us in the discussions with a clear plan and his passion for the task.”

Individual discussions as a first measure

Kohfeldt announced that he would “have many individual discussions to get to know the team.” Kohfeldt, who was considered Fernie’s top candidate, will make his competitive debut for the Bundesliga relegated team next Saturday (1 p.m./Sky) in the basement duel with bottom-placed Eintracht Braunschweig.

Lieberknecht announced his resignation after a poor start to the season with only one point from four games, including the 0:4 defeat at SV Elversberg. Darmstadt complied with this request and ended their collaboration after more than three years.
