The problems with the school caterer “40 Seconds” continue: Due to a “disturbance in the production kitchen,” no lunch will be delivered to 21 schools in the Neukölln district today, Tuesday. This is stated in an email from the district school authority to the management of the affected schools.
A district spokesperson confirmed to the Tagesspiegel that the disruption affects all schools in the district that are supplied by “40 Seconds.” It is not yet clear whether other schools in other districts are affected.
The Neukölln district office informed the schools that, in accordance with the terms of the contract, they can order the food supply themselves, even from another school caterer. “The invoices can be sent directly to 40 Seconds.” The Tagesspiegel asked the caterer whether the disruption is likely to affect the delivery of food on several days. A response is still pending.
Most Berlin districts had put their school catering out to tender for this school year and the next three years. As reported, the school caterer “40 Seconds”, whose order situation has multiplied, had massive delivery and service problems in almost the entire city in the first week of school. On Tuesday, “40 Seconds” must therefore present the school administration with a “timetable of measures”. Otherwise, the districts threaten to terminate the contract at the end of next week.
