Former Ohio teacher admits sexually abusing student, could get 10 years in prison

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A former teacher and coach in a school district in southern Ohio could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with the sexual abuse of a minor student.

Caroline Johnson, 36, of South Webster, who worked in the Bloom-Vernon Local School District, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of sexual battery, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Each count is punishable by one to five years in prison. She also must register as a Tier III sex offender.

Johnson was a coach and intervention specialist with school district in Scioto County, authorities say. The sexual activity occurred while Johnson was employed with the school district. She was indicted in December.

Investigators have not released additional details on the case.

Johnson will be sentenced on Nov. 25. South Webster is located near the Ohio River and the border with Kentucky.
