US striker Alex Morgan is ending her career as a professional footballer. In addition to her retirement, the two-time world champion also announced on Instagram that she is pregnant for the second time. In 2020, the 35-year-old Morgan already gave birth to a daughter. The world-class striker will play her last game on Sunday for her club San Diego Wave in the US professional league NWSL.

In 2015 and 2019, Morgan won the World Cup with the US women’s soccer team, and in 2019 in France she captained the team led by then top star Megan Rapinoe. In 2012, she also won Olympic gold. In 224 international matches, Morgan scored 123 goals and provided 53 assists.

Morgan made his debut in the US team in 2009

“I grew up on this team, it was so much more than just football,” Morgan said in a statement from the association about her time on the US team, for which she made her debut in 2009 as a 20-year-old. She played her last game for the national team on June 4 against South Korea; she was not part of the US Olympic champions’ team in France.
