Füchse Berlin celebrate first Champions League victory

The handball players of the Füchse Berlin celebrated their first victory in the Champions League on the second match day. After a narrow opening defeat against Veszprém, the Berlin team won comfortably against the North Macedonian champions HC Eurofarm Pelister with 30:22 (15:9). The best Berlin scorers in Bitola were Lasse Andersson with seven and Mathias Gidsel with six goals.

The match began in a heated atmosphere with an even scoreline and the offensive lines dominated. However, the Bundesliga team proved to be more efficient in attack and when the hosts made their first mistakes, the Füchse were able to pull ahead by three goals for the first time after 14 minutes (9:6).

Foxes could conserve energy

The Berliners missed a few chances afterwards, but were very alert in defence. In addition, goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev was now on fire and made a number of saves – including a saved seven-metre throw. Bitola only managed three more goals by half-time and the Füchse temporarily extended their lead to seven goals (15:8).

After the break, the guests continued to defend well and quickly extended their lead to nine goals (20:11). After that, they missed a few shots themselves, but the hosts were too harmless overall to pose a threat to the Füchse. Coach Jaron Siewert was able to rest some of his regular players at the end.
