Game of the Week: Goddard-Eisenhower vs. Wichita Northwest

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The regular season is wrapping up for local high school football teams on Friday and KSN’s final Game of the Week is between two powerhouses, Goddard-Eisenhower and Wichita Northwest.

Both teams enter the game with one loss each. Wichita Northwest lost to Manhattan in week six, but they’re looking to finish the season on a high note in their first-ever meeting with Eisenhower.

“Probably most dynamic offense we’ve seen all year,” Northwest head coach Steve Martin said. “And then, you know, defensively they’re very aggressive. What they do is limit teams probably about 14, 15 points per game. So, you know, they’re going to present some issues for us.”

“They’re going to be a good team,” Northwest linebacker Ja’mari Bland said. “They’re going to want it just as bad as us, and they’re going to give us a run. But we gotta be ready, and they’ll give us a look to what to see later on in the future.”

Eisenhower on the other hand is ready to use their skills on offense and they haven’t been held under 21 points all season. They’re ready for the test of the Grizzlies after their sole loss against Andover Central last weekend.

“You know, (Andover Central) exposed some weaknesses that we have. And so those are good things. That’s why we like playing at those good teams is because it’s a way for us to get better and we can see what we need to improve on as we make the push for state,” Goddard-Eisenhower head coach Darrin Fisher said.

“We got to get our run game going later in the game,” Eisenhower quarterback Derek Morgan said. “Because we like to run the ball, but we’re a very balanced team, and we got to keep executing on both in the run game and pass game.”
