GAZA CITY, SEPT 15 – The Gaza Media Office warns of a humanitarian crisis that will hit the two million Palestinians who have lost their homes in the Gaza Strip by winter, the Agency reported. Anatolia yesterday.
“A total of 74 percent of the tents of the displaced residents are no longer suitable for use, based on the field assessment conducted by the government team,” according to a statement from the office.
The team also reported that 100,000 of the 135,000 tents needed to be replaced immediately due to severe damage due to the scorching heat and extreme climatic conditions in Gaza.
The office also warned of a “real humanitarian disaster” when winter arrives, potentially leaving millions without shelter.
In the statement, the office stressed that Israel’s closure of the crossing prevented the entry of some 250,000 much-needed tents and caravans into the Gaza Strip.
Accordingly, the Gaza Media Office urges the international community, countries, the United Nations (UN) and Arab organizations to immediately channel aid to two million people in need to face the cold winter and hot summer.
The office also called for pressure to be put on the occupiers to stop genocidal crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel has continued its violent attacks on Gaza since last October, despite the UN Security Council issuing a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire. According to local health authorities, nearly 41,200 people, mostly women and children, were killed and more than 95,200 injured as a result of the attack.
The ongoing attacks have also left almost the entire population of Gaza homeless, while the imposed blockade has led to increasingly critical shortages of food, clean water and medical supplies.
