AVON, Ohio – Another year passes, and another Gents Art Show is a success at Creative Space Avon. Owner Judy Kean noted it was nice to see so many men coming in this year’s exhibit.

There was a wide range of art to enjoy. From a stain glass Last Supper to the calm of outdoors to automobiles and more.

Jean Kondo Weigl was the judge of the art. According to her own information, she is a third-generation Japanese American artist who works in painting and drawing. She was born in Berkeley, California, a few years after her parents’ release from one of ten internment camps for persons of Japanese descent that were mandated by the US government during World War II.

Weigl attended public schools in Berkeley and Oakland, participating seriously in competitive figure skating at the regional level throughout her middle school and high school years.

She obtained a BA from Scripps College, Claremont, CA; an MA from Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH, and an MFA from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City.

Weigl’s work has been widely exhibited at regional and national venues such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Arkansas Arts Center, the AIR Gallery, NYC, and Gallery K, Washington, DC, and her one person shows include those at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Visual and Performing Arts Complex, Columbus, OH; the Zygote Gallery, Cleveland, and the Richard D. Baron Gallery, Oberlin College.

In the Gents IV show here are the awards:

Best of Show

“Big Blue” – Ink, Glass, Paint & Wood – Kristopher Petrenko

Kristopher J. Petrenko Artist Statement Kristopher Petrenko (Cleveland, OH) is an industrial artist who utilizes repurposed materials such as wood, metal, and glass. Petrenko then paints with ink and stain to complete the feel of each piece. Petrenko’s upbringing in the rust-belt (son of a steelworker), love of steel mill sites and metro park areas was a natural catalyst for his art. His work captures a variety of subject matters which include still life, cityscapes, nature and industrial settings. All images are tied to an idea of transforming discarded materials into a connection between the natural and industrial. Petrenko’s work pays respect to the Cleveland rust-belt where he was born while at the same time shining a light on the areas of city not public
