Policy: According to the Reuters news agency, photos in the Georgian media show Khabeishvili with blood on his face and a black eye.

According to an official in the United National Movement party, the politician is receiving medical help. He is said to have suffered the injuries when he disappeared from the demonstration against a bill.

The controversial proposal would require media and organizations to register as “foreign agents” if more than 20 percent of the funding comes from abroad.

Opponents consider the law to be authoritarian and inspired by Russian governance. The EU has warned Georgia that the law could have consequences for the country’s EU application.
