Veteran Simon Geschke and young hopeful Florian Lipowitz are part of the German squad for the Road World Championships in Zurich. As the German Cycling Association announced, the German champion Marco Brenner, this year’s Giro stage winner Georg Steinhauser, as well as Maximilian Schachmann and Georg Zimmermann are also taking part.

For former Tour de France stage winner Geschke, it will be his last World Championship appearance before his retirement at the end of the season. The 38-year-old has taken part in the international cycling summit eight times in his career.

Lipowitz seventh at Vuelta

For Lipowitz, who sensationally finished seventh overall in the Vuelta in Spain in his first full major national tour, this is his first participation in a world championship in the elite class. The 23-year-old is under contract with the top German team Red Bull and will be carefully trained.

Miguel Heidemann and Schachmann will start in the individual time trial. Jonas Rutsch and Florian Storck are designated as substitute professionals.

The World Championships will take place in Zurich from September 21 to 29. In addition to defending champion Mathieu van der Poel from the Netherlands, top stars such as Tour and Giro winner Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia and double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium will also compete.
