According to a report by Bild, pop singer Heino (85, “Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuß”) would like to see a politician like former US President Donald Trump for Germany. “Germany needs a Donald Trump who will finally clean up our country and who simply doesn’t care about the opinion of his opponents,” Bild (Wednesday) quoted the musician as saying. “Who sometimes blusters, but remains steadfast and keeps the well-being of his country and its citizens clearly in mind.” Trump is running again as the Republican candidate in the US presidential election on November 5th.
He believes “that many people think like me but don’t dare to say so,” Bild quoted him as saying. “Everyone is afraid of being socially ostracized. Personally, I don’t care. I’m 85 years old and I stand by my convictions. I don’t want our beautiful country to go to the dogs.”
According to the “Bild” report, Heino also made reference to the current debate about irregular migration and deportations. “It cannot be the case that people in Germany no longer dare to go out on the streets and have to be afraid of being stabbed,” the newspaper quoted the folk music star as saying. “We must finally take tough action against criminal migrants. And by that I mean deportations on a large scale. Anyone who becomes violent in our country has no place here anymore and must leave.”
Always controversy about Heino
Heino has repeatedly caused controversy in his long career – for example when he recorded all three verses of the German national anthem in the 1970s at the request of the Baden-Württemberg Prime Minister and former Nazi naval judge Hans Filbinger (CDU). Heino defended himself by saying that the record was intended as teaching material. There was also criticism when he performed in South Africa in the early 1980s during the apartheid era despite the UN embargo.
In 2021, he did not let the fact that a “German song recital” in his hometown of Düsseldorf was criticized as “silly” get to him. After a decisive word from the mayor, Heino was allowed to promote his concert as planned.
Intensified debate about migration and deportations
The debate about irregular migration and deportations has intensified in Germany due to several violent acts. In Solingen, for example, three people were killed and eight others injured in a suspected Islamist knife attack at a town festival in August. A 26-year-old Syrian is in custody for the crime.
The nationwide crime statistics recorded 214,099 cases of violent crime last year – an increase of 8.6 percent since 2022. In addition to murder and manslaughter, violent crime also includes rape, sexual assault, robbery and bodily harm. For the pre-Corona year of 2019, the crime statistics counted a total of 181,054 cases of violent crime in Germany.
