The victory that was ordered for Saturday finally came on Sunday. With a day’s delay, Pogacar can still wear the pink jersey. Will he still give up the pink before the peloton arrives in Turin in three weeks?
That is still very much the question. After the introductory shelling, it was only a matter of waiting for Pogacar’s attack during the ascent of the Oropa. And that attack came. No one could join and Ben O’Connor had to pay the price for making the attempt.
Pogacar crash due to flat tire
Pogacar had long since fallen – and got back up again. Just before turning onto the Oropa he suddenly lay on the asphalt. The UAE Team Emirates team car was already behind him and the tumble occurred at low speed, but it was still a strange sight.
However, as if nothing had happened, Pogacar then rode to a stage win and the pink jersey. Half a minute behind him, Cian Uijtdebroeks held on excellently, allowing him to put on the white jersey.
