BELAIT, 24 OCT – The concept of worship is not limited to the practice of ritual worship or specific worship such as prayer, fasting, hajj and zakat.
In fact, the act of worship includes a broad meaning including community and social work, working to earn a living, up to managing and administering the country, explained Visiting Professor, Usuluddin Faculty, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), Professor Dr Ustaz Haji Abdul Somad Batubara during The 2024 Knowledge Council Forum for the Belait District held at the Insani Center, Seria.
Present as the guest of honor at the ceremony was the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and the Second Minister of Defence, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
The forum talk titled Work, Family, Health was moderated by the Mosque Affairs Officer, Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sellahuddin.
During the forum, Professor Dr Ustaz Haji Abdul Somad explained that Islam has taught its people to always strive to practice an excellent work culture based on faith and morals to avoid falling into mental health problems at work.
Mental health problems can have a negative impact on individuals at various stages of life, including at work such as high work stress and fatigue which also contribute to anxiety and depression.
The concept of ‘work is worship’ needs to be practiced by every individual in daily life to gain the pleasure of Allah SWT, especially in performing duties and responsibilities.
By practicing this concept, he said, it is hoped that all individuals will always strive to improve quality and productivity at all times without feeling tired.
“This will definitely raise the awareness that working is not just a responsibility towards oneself, family, community and country but rather it is a trust from Allah SWT,” he stressed again.
