Google officially launched its Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First programme during a recent event at the Dubai Future Foundation Auditorium, showcasing its inaugural cohort of 15 promising AI startups from the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.
The selected startups represent a diverse range of AI applications, addressing sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, sustainability, finance and accessibility.
The initiative aims to provide these startups with access to Google’s advanced technology, industry experts, and a robust network of fellow entrepreneurs.
Anthony Nakache, managing director of Google MENA, emphasised the region’s potential in harnessing AI to drive innovation and economic growth.
“As we witness the immense potential of AI to revolutionise industries worldwide, the Middle East and North Africa stand at a pivotal juncture,” Nakache said. “Through the Google for Startups AI First programme, we are committed to empowering exceptional founders who are leveraging AI to tackle pressing challenges and create a brighter future for the region.”
Highlights of Google’s programme
The 10-week programme commenced on October 21 with a two-day event featuring panel discussions, workshops, mentorship sessions, and networking opportunities.
Baris Yesugey, head of Accelerator and Startup Ecosystem for MENAT, highlighted the programme’s goals: “Our comprehensive support will focus on problem-solving, refining business strategies, and identifying new avenues for growth.”
The tech giant‘s accelerator initiative aims to bolster innovation and entrepreneurship in the region, providing startups with essential resources for development. This effort aligns with the broader objective of fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.
