Guardian fatigue should not be ignored | Gem Media Online

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 18 – Caregiver fatigue is a concern that is often overlooked.

Although caring for someone we love is very satisfying, it can also be physically and emotionally taxing.

The beauty we witness in providing care and the resilience of those we care for is so beautiful, this important work can also impact our well-being leading to fatigue and compassion fatigue.

Therefore, identifying caregiver fatigue is the first step towards finding an effective solution to deal with it, explained the Chairman of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2024, Dr Haji Zulkhairi bin Haji Mohamad in his welcome speech at the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2024 which is taking place at Setia Point, Berakas, tonight.

Present as the guest of honor at the ceremony was the Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jerudong Beach Specialist Center (PJSC), Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

The event featured talks that focused on the important role that caregivers play in the journey of patients facing life-threatening illnesses.

A talk titled, Carer Fatigue: Addressing the Needs of Those Who Caredelivered by motivational speaker from Singapore, Mizi Wahid outlined the spiritually, physically and emotionally challenging experiences experienced by caregivers.

He touches on the often overlooked fatigue and stress that caregivers face every day, offering practical self-care strategies rooted in Islamic values.

The message it conveys empowers caregivers to balance their well-being while maintaining their role, providing strength and purpose.

The 2024 World Hospice and Palliative Care Day campaign which carries the theme, Ten Years Since the Resolution: How Are We Doing?, highlights the importance of compassion, dignity and support not only for patients but also for caregivers.

Recognizing the role that caregivers play, PJSC aims to foster an environment where caregivers feel valued, supported and equipped to care for themselves and their loved ones.
