More than two years ago, the Federal Government reacted to a severe reduction in Russian gas supplies the so-called Alert level of Gas emergency plan – the second of three stages. At the time, Habeck had also launched a package of measures to reduce gas consumption in industry and to enable gas to be stored instead.

Germany has now overcome its former dependence on Russian gas. On Wednesday evening, Habeck said at a citizens’ dialogue with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that there was no more gas shortages.

The German Environmental Aid called for the Federal government must immediately withdraw the alert level of the gas emergency plan and reduce it to the early warning level. This also makes it clear that no further construction of new LNG terminals is requiredThe LNG acceleration law, which allows the new plants to be built in a shortened procedure and with reduced legal protection, must be repealed immediately.
