Heino Ferch as a quirky professor

At first glance, the two have nothing in common: mathematics professor Leonard Damovsky (Heino Ferch) and café employee Judith Kreuzer (Tanja Wedhorn). Leonard can hardly stand being close to other people. He lives in his world of numbers and prefers to isolate himself. Judith, on the other hand, enjoys life, is loud and impulsive. How can these two people get along? That is the story of the comedy “Love is Unpredictable,” which can be seen on Saturday (September 7, 8:15 p.m.) on NDR.

Judith works in the campus cafe and has a casual relationship with Stefan Bach, the university’s marketing manager. He wants to help his girlfriend get a new job and sets up a student project – Judith and the math professor are supposed to get children excited about algebra and geometry. Leonard, however, is anything but enthusiastic. He thinks Judith is not only unqualified, but also too chaotic.

Ferch wanted to play “this strange, uptight guy”

To make matters worse, his father Franz gets involved. As a former comedian, he wants to bring the project – and above all himself – to the public. However, with tactless and crude jokes, he embarrasses his son, who suffers from anxiety disorders, to the core. Franz is played by Michael Gwisdek, who can be seen here in his last role. The actor, who was also known for appearances in the films “Good Bye, Lenin!”, “Boxhagener Platz”, “Nachtgestalten” and “Oh Boy” and from numerous television films and series, died in 2020.

Judith recognizes Leonard’s various needs, and he slowly gains trust. “I just wanted to play this strange, uptight guy,” Ferch told the German Press Agency when the comedy was first broadcast on TV in 2021. “I like playing people who are so different and live in their own world. I like change and am happy that producers give me the chance to play different characters.”

Not the first joint appearance with Wedhorn

Incidentally, this is not the only time that Ferch and Wedhorn, who has also been practicing regularly as a TV doctor on Rügen in the series “Praxis mit Meerblick” since 2017, have worked together. They were previously seen as a duo in the film “Liebe verjährt nicht”, which was broadcast in 2020 and – just like “Liebe ist unerkechenbar” – is available in the ARD media library. “We just got on so well, we got along well in front of the camera, it was clear that we would do it again,” says Ferch about the collaboration with his acting colleague.
