Berlin (dpa/bb) – Second division soccer club Hertha BSC will have to do without new signing John Anthony Brooks for a while. The 31-year-old returnee sustained an injury to his right foot during training. This forces the former US international to take a break of several weeks.

“Jay Brooks sustained an ankle injury in training on Monday. We will have to do without him for the next few weeks,” Hertha announced. Bild and Kicker were the first to report.

Defender Brooks only signed a contract with Hertha last Thursday and is set to replace Marc Oliver Kempf, who has moved to AC Como.

The defender, who played for Hertha’s youth teams from 2007 to 2017 and progressed through the first team, twisted his ankle while attempting to block a ball. His right foot twisted and was put back in place by physiotherapists on the pitch.
