BOULDER, Colo. — A man accused of multiple hit-and-run crashes was arrested Thursday night after driving his truck onto Folsom Field, the home stadium for the University of Colorado football team.
Police in Boulder, Colorado, received a call around 6:45 p.m. Thursday about a pickup truck involved in several hit and run crashes in the area, according to a news release from the Boulder Police Department. Witnesses reported a man driving a blue truck was involved in at least two hit-and-run crashes with other vehicles and also struck several trees and signs before fleeing the scene.
BPD attempted to stop the driver, but he eluded officers and continued driving his vehicle. He was located by officers near Stadium Drive, outside of Folsom Field, who again attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver eluded officers again and rammed his vehicle through a gate before driving onto Folsom Field, located on the campus of University of Colorado Boulder. Images of the truck parked on Folsom Field were shared on social media.
After negotiation with police, the driver – Karl E. Haglund, 48, of Massachusetts – exited his vehicle and surrendered to police, according to the release. He was booked into the Boulder County Jail on a number of charges, including: criminal attempt vehicular assault, criminal mischief $100-$150K, reckless endangerment, three counts of leaving the scene of a crash after damage, failure to obey a traffic control device, vehicular eluding, driving without insurance, obstruction of a peace officer and trespassing.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to BPD.
