The best news of the evening was announced by jury president Isabelle Huppert right at the start of the awards ceremony on Saturday evening: “Cinema is in great shape.” However, the exact shape of this cinema is something that could be argued about at the 81st Venice Film Festival. And one does not necessarily have to share the view of a jury that, to a certain extent, claims sovereignty over contemporary cinema with its awards.
