Mr. Kara-Mursa, you have been free again for a good month. What was your best experience during this time?
Without a doubt, seeing my family again. I was in prison for two years and three months and was not allowed to call my wife and children regularly. I was only able to speak to them twice during that time. This is an old custom in Russia. When the ruling regime fights opposition members, it always takes action against their families. This deprivation of relationships is torture – for the prisoners as well as their relatives. It was one of the hardest aspects of my imprisonment.
