Niklas Warnke (name changed) was eight when he could no longer cope at school. But the first signs were there earlier. “My handwriting was pretty sloppy since the first grade. Teachers always complained about it,” says the now 15-year-old. And they not only complained about it back then, they also gave me bad grades. Today Niklas is considered highly gifted – but in primary school his intelligence was doubted.
Niklas didn’t get bad grades in German because he made too many spelling or grammatical errors. “The teachers couldn’t distinguish between upper and lower case letters because of the messy handwriting and so they marked my mistakes.”
