BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 22 – A Thai woman was sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to various charges involving prostitution.
While his co-accused, a Bangladeshi man, denied the charge.
Magistrate Syarifah Nur Baqiyah binti Malai Shahran passed the sentence on Oranee Suila, 53, last Thursday. Suila allegedly lived off the proceeds of prostitution from three different Thai women over a period of several months.
Co-accused, Md Ataur Rahman, 35, faces charges of abetting Suila by finding clients for the prostitute. His case has been adjourned to September 24 for a trial date to be set.
Prosecuting Officer Ahmad Firdaus Mohammad presented the facts during the trial, emphasizing the investigation and arrest that took place on August 19, following a police raid on a rental house in Jalan Jerudong, Kampung Sengkurong. The raid was carried out after receiving reports of suspected immoral activities.
Investigations revealed that Suila had assisted several women for prostitution in finding clients in exchange for a portion of the payment they received.
One of the victims, a 42-year-old Thai woman, provided sexual services to about 20 clients between July and August. Suila receives $10 for every customer she successfully helps.
Another Thai woman, known as Yong, arrived in Brunei on August 9 and was involved in the same deal as Suila. Yong served 20 customers, with Suila receiving an equal share of the revenue.
The police investigation found that Suila was also involved in accepting the earnings of a 31-year-old Thai woman, who had been working as a prostitute in the same house since December 2023.
The woman reportedly offered sexual services to approximately 120 clients, with Suila receiving a total of $270 from the woman’s earnings over several months.
Suila admitted to the offense stating she needed money to pay her rent. The court took into account that he had no previous convictions.
