According to statistics, errors in healthcare are one of the main causes of preventable complications and deaths, stressed the Minister of Health, the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar when speaking at the 2024 World Patient Safety Day Celebration Ceremony which took place in the Lobby Room , Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Hospital Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Tutong, yesterday.

He stated that several main goals have been outlined to improve patient safety which is the prevention of infection by ensuring that infection prevention measures are strictly applied such as hand hygiene and sterilization of equipment, surgical safety by using a surgical checklist to ensure that all safety procedures are followed before, during and after surgery as well as proper medication management by ensuring the patient receives the correct medication at the correct dose at the correct time.

The main goal that is also highlighted is the improvement of correct diagnosis where increasing the accuracy of diagnosis can ensure that patients receive appropriate and effective treatment as well as effective communication where improving communication between health professionals and patients where patients are given sufficient information about the procedure and the risks involved involved.

Yang Berhormat Dato stated that the celebration focused on the safety aspects of surgery.

In relation to that, Yang Berhormat Dato stated that his ministry has drawn up a Surgical Safety Policy where the policy lists checklists that must be carried out by all health professionals involved in the operating room including before anesthesia, before starting surgery and after surgery to reduce related risks. during surgery.

The ceremony continued with a video screening, the opening ceremony and the handing over of documents, Safety Surgery Policy. In the meantime, Yang Berhormat Dato perfected and officiated the Blood Collection / Phlebotomy Unit.
