Investigators see evidence of arson in Eberswalde

After the fire in Eberswalde that left two people dead, investigators are investigating the suspicion of arson. RBB quoted the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office, Ingo Kechichian, as saying: “We are not assuming that there was a technical defect, but rather that the fire was caused by deliberate behavior.” According to dpa information, investigators also have initial evidence that points to arson.

Two people died and six were injured in a fire in a residential and commercial building in downtown Eberswalde over the weekend. According to police, the multi-story building is mainly home to people with a migrant background. The city reacted with shock and remembered the victims.

The public prosecutor’s office was initially unavailable for inquiries that evening.
