Iran wants to resume nuclear negotiations with the West. Trust must be rebuilt so that sanctions can be liftedThat is why Iran is ready to start nuclear negotiations, said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with state broadcaster IRIB. The dialogue should only take place on the basis of mutual respect and without exerting pressuresaid the Iranian chief diplomat.

The resumption of nuclear negotiations is also high on the agenda of President Massoud Peseschkian, who is considered moderate. Peseschkian has repeatedly announced better relations with the West, also to open up the country and stimulate the struggling economy.

Therefore, his government includes three diplomats – Mohammad Javad Zarif as Vice President, Araghchi as Chief Diplomat and Majid Takht-Rawanchi as Deputy Foreign Minister – who negotiated the Vienna nuclear agreement in 2015 with the so-called 5+1 group – China, Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia and the USA.

Iran has been in a massive economic crisis since the US withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed new sanctions. According to observers, a resumption of nuclear negotiations, which are intended to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, is the only political option to achieve a lifting of sanctions and improve the situation.
