Is Prince Harry planning a royal comeback?

The Queen, it is said, has always had a particularly close relationship with her grandson Harry. The estrangement between him, his brother William and his father Charles is said to have saddened Elizabeth II.

Nevertheless, it was she who made the final decision: If Harry and his wife Meghan move to the USA, that would also be the end of his service to the crown. “You can’t be half in, half out,” she is said to have said at the time. But that is exactly what Harry is said to want now.

Since 2020, Prince Harry has been living with his family in California and no longer takes on official appointments for the British royal family. But now there seems to be movement in the background. British media are speculating: Is Harry planning a royal comeback?

“He’s had enough of Hollywood,” the Times quotes an anonymous source. He is looking for a way to become part of the active royal family again – to improve his image at home and to to support father suffering from cancerit is said. However, he does not want to move back to London permanently at first.

But although other media, like the “Telegraph”write that Harry has “great” new friends in the USA, the 39-year-old and his wife Meghan do not seem to have found happiness in California yet. A cooperation with Netflix has so far only produced a less than successful documentary about the couple. Other productions are “in the works”, it is said. Including one about the sport of polo.

A podcast deal with Spotify ended in 2023. In the same year Harry published his autobiography “Spare”which caused a royal stir – among other things because Harry reported on sexual adventures in pub car parks – but sales fell far short of expectations.

A few weeks ago, a video appeared on social media in which Meghan was making jam – apparently the next entrepreneurial attempt. So does the couple perhaps need money? After all, “working royals” – members of the royal family who attend official appointments – receive state compensation.

But could there even be a way back? It is clear that Harry would be dependent on the goodwill of two men: King Charles and heir to the throne William. Even if the father would perhaps be grateful to have his youngest son around him again, he would be going against the Queen’s decision and breaking family rules.

The bigger hurdle is likely to be William. The two brothers are said to be deeply at odds and apparently no longer speak to each other. When Harry and Meghan moved to the USA, they accused their immediate family of racism. Harry is also said to feel abandoned by William when Meghan suffered from depression during her time in London.

The relationship between her and William’s wife Kate is also said to be extremely strained. William, in turn, is said to be annoyed by Harry’s constant scandals and indiscretions. It is hard to imagine that William would simply allow his brother to return to the royal nest.

Prince Harry or even the royal family have not yet commented on these speculations – but anything else would be a sensation.
