ROME, OCT 15 – The Italian contingent of the United Nations Interim Force UNIFIL will not withdraw from Lebanon amid Israeli attacks, despite demands from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw, Italian news agency reported. ANSAquoting the statement of the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani yesterday.
Tajani emphasized that any decision regarding the possible withdrawal rests solely in the hands of the United Nations (UN).
“We insist that what happened is unacceptable. Italian soldiers are untouchable. We will not abandon our position, because this decision is entirely in the hands of the UN. We will not retreat from areas that are facing difficulties,” said the Forza Italia leader after the summit in the Balkans, Berlin.
