JIS students produce reef balls for marine conservation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 11 – Poni Divers and Brunei SEA celebrated an important achievement in marine conservation when they handed over the first reef balls produced by Bruneian students to Jerudong International School (JIS) through the JIS Diving Club, signifying the school’s commitment to environmental conservation and marine education.

The commemorative Reef Balls were produced by JIS students in the launch of the first School Reef Ball Program held at the JIS Outdoor Discovery Center in November 2023.

Since then, Poni Divers and LAUT Brunei continue to collaborate with JIS in the program, which involves students in marine conservation talks. In total, 34 reef balls have been produced, with some of them already placed at the dedicated JIS Reef Ball site at Pelong Rocks.

Also present at the reef ball presentation ceremony were representatives from LAUT Brunei, Donna Baltazar and Fatnin Shah, along with JIS faculty members, Sue Mead and Dani Mason.
