BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 17 OCT – The Royal Customs and Excise Department (JKED) succeeded in combating the smuggling of contraband through an inspection at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post entrance and the operation of the Law Enforcement Division in the Kampung Pintu Malim area.
According to a statement issued by JKED, here, stating the results of the monitoring and inspection of JKED officers at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post yesterday, they have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle contraband by arresting a 34-year-old permanent resident man.
The confiscated items were 150 cartons of cigarettes, 948 cans of liquor and a vehicle used to carry the items.
Meanwhile, on the same day, an operation carried out by JKED enforcement officers in the area of Kampung Pintu Malim, Brunei Muara, succeeded in arresting a 25-year-old local man and a 34-year-old foreign man.
The seized contraband was a package containing suspected controlled drug substances, 1,724 cartons of cigarettes and two vehicles used to carry the contraband.
All the items were confiscated and the individuals involved were taken to the Law Enforcement Office, JKED for further investigation. While the package suspected of controlled drugs has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for investigation and further action by the agency concerned.
JKED advises the public to always comply with any laws of this country and avoid doing smuggling activities or bringing in and out goods that are restricted, restricted and prohibited by customs.
Possession of customs brokered goods is an offense under Section 146, Excise Order 2006.
