TEMBURONG, 22 SEPT – The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) through the Department of Consumer Affairs together with the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), Industry and Business Ecosystem Division under the Ministry of Finance and Economy have carried out integrated operations on business premises in the District Temburong recently.
According to a statement issued by JPES, here, as a result of the operation, it was found that four business premises in the Bangar, Sungai Tanit and Kampung Amo areas that were inspected had complied with the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and the regulations under it where price-controlled goods such as cooking oil and milk powder formula, are not sold above the maximum set price, and the goods sold on the business premises have been clearly and correctly marked with prices.
Meanwhile, the SDT Unit found nine units of measuring and weighing tools used for the purpose of buying and selling activities. One of the units was found to be in violation of the Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151, Regulations (Research) of Weights and Measures, 1994 which is using weights and measures that have expired registration authorization period.
The company has issued a Seizure Notice and is required to attend the SDT Unit office within seven working days from the date the notice is issued to correct the issue. The tool has been confiscated.
Accordingly, JPES and the SDT Unit remind traders to conduct business activities in an ethical and appropriate manner by always ensuring that price-controlled goods are not sold above the maximum set price and that the goods sold are displayed with clear price tags and do not confuse consumers.
Traders are also reminded to ensure that the measuring and weighing tools used during buying and selling activities involving, among others, weight and volume markings, are registered with the SDT Unit with a valid registration period.
