Kano imposes restriction on movement

The Kano State Government, in consultation with security agencies, has placed restrictions on movement across the state from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 pm on Saturday.

This was contained in a statement released Friday evening by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye.

“The restriction is aimed at ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the local government election, which will be held in all 484 wards of the 44 local government areas of the state,” Dantiye said.

The statement urged the public to respect the movement restrictions and contribute to the integrity and safety of the electoral process.

“We reaffirm our commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election,” Dantiye stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to a transparent electoral process.

The restriction order affects both individuals and vehicles across the 44 local government areas and 484 electoral wards in the state.

The restrictions come as Kano prepares for its local government elections, scheduled for tomorrow, October 26.

The statement said that the measure is designed to maintain security, prevent any potential disruptions, and promote a conducive atmosphere for a fair and credible voting process.

However, exemptions have been granted to individuals involved in official election duties and those providing essential services during the exercise.

He stressed that citizens’ adherence to the movement restrictions is vital for the overall safety and success of the election.
