Kansas Task Force 2 shares photos of Milton relief effort

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) — The Kansas State Fire Marshal shared photos of the Kansas Task Force 2 deployed to Florida to help with hurricane relief efforts.

The Kansas Fire Marshal said the task force started the day at 4:30 a.m. and drove to a staging area in north Florida around the Tampa area.

The task force searched both land and water in a residential area along the shore. Two K-9 handlers were deployed with the outfit and were used for search and rescue efforts. The Fire Marshal’s Office said the task force is waiting for their daily tasks while based in central Florida.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Kansas State Fire Marshal deployed its Task Force 2 to Florida. The task force is made up of personnel from the State Fire Marshal’s office, Chanute Fire Department, Cherryvale Fire-Rescue, Johnson County Med-Act, Manhattan Fire Department, Neodesha Fire Department, Salina Fire Department, Shawnee Kansas Fire Department and Wichita Fire Department.

“The personnel responding to Florida to assist with Hurricane Milton have trained for this kind of disaster response,” said Kansas State Fire Marshal Mark Engholm said in a press release announcing the deployment. “They are committed to providing professional search and rescue support to those in need. Kansas can be proud of our men and women who have chosen to deploy.”
