TOPEKA (KSNT) – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) is alerting Kansas veterans after a system failure lost over 850 records containing medical information and more on Friday, Oct. 25.
According to the press release from Moran’s office, the Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee was alerted that 875 files sent to the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System had gone missing. The files go back to June 11, 2024 and have medical documents, care referrals, authorizations for care and other information.
“I have asked VA to quickly review every file and take all appropriate actions to mitigate patient harm that has or may result from this system failure,” said Sen. Moran. “I have also asked VA to quickly review each of the other 27 health care systems across the Veterans Health Administration that use this same electronic fax system in order to identify similar issues and assist any patients whose care has been negatively impacted. My office will remain in contact with VA until the full scope of this problem is known and all necessary corrective actions are taken.”
Moran recommended veterans who are concerned that the issue could’ve caused delays in their care to contact the VA care team. He said if a veteran needs more assistance, they can contact his office by clicking here.
