Kg Ayer footpath handover ceremony

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 9 – Mitsubishi Corporation through the Brunei Representative Office has completed the second edition of the Social Development Project in Kampung Setia A Zone 2, Kampong Ayer with the handover ceremony of the newly renovated footpath at the Haji Mohammad Wangsa Perdana Mosque, Kampung Setia.

Present as guests of honor at the event were the Minister of Home Affairs, the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman and the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Maeda Toru.

In his welcome speech, the Country Representative of Mitsubishi Corporation (Brunei Representative Office), Tadashi Hara, shared the view that Mitsubishi Corporation has repaired one of the 132-meter footpaths located in Kampung Setia A, Zone 2, Kampong Ayer in collaboration with Green Brunei under the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the District Office.

“By repairing and improving the safety of the route, we hope that residents will take advantage of this renewed route as much as possible, because the safety of residents is the most important aspect for us in giving back to the community.

“In addition, under the support of the Ministry of Education and the Forestry Department, we have held five educational visits, involving 86 students to the Tropical Biodiversity Center. The students were selected from Sungai Siamas Primary School, Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School, Bendahara Lama Primary School, Saba Darat Primary School and Haji Tarif Primary School,” he said.

“With the objective of spreading environmental awareness to the younger generation, we have given students the opportunity to learn about biodiversity in Brunei through this educational visit, thus gaining knowledge from this program.

“In addition, we also have the opportunity to donate to the victims of the house fire that involved several houses in Kampung Setia B. We hope that the burden of the affected families can be eased in this difficult time,” added Tadashi Hara.

According to the statement, the Social Development Project has had a significant impact through the repair of footpaths and rest huts in Kampung Setia A Zone 2, Kampong Ayer.

The pedestrian repair work started on August 6 and ended on August 20. The restoration is expected to improve the safety and accessibility of the villagers.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Corporation has also donated basic necessities to nine families affected by the house fire in Kampung Setia B, in an effort to help rebuild their daily lives.
