KPK is expected to develop kenaf crops in Sabah

CYBERJAYA, 19 SEPT – The Ministry of Plantations and Commodities (KPK) through the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) will develop kenaf crops on 150 hectares of land in Sabah this year, said Deputy Minister of Plantations and Commodities, Datuk Chan Foong Hin.

He said in connection with that, LKTN had discussed with the Sabah State Land Development Board (SLDB) and had obtained SLDB’s approval.

“Not only SLDB, LKTN has discussed with another cooperative and one company in Sabah. Therefore, overall we want to develop 150 hectares for this year with an allocation of RM1.5 million.

“Only at this time, we are asking the Sabah government, especially the Sabah Department of Agriculture to allow bringing kenaf seeds from the peninsula to Sabah,” he told reporters after attending the 2024 Kenaf Industry National Conference (PKIK 2024), today.

Chan said he had also met Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I who is also the state Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

“I hope this matter can be speeded up and we can launch this program before the end of this year,” he said. – Named
