PAPAR, 16 SEPT – The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) will introduce a new rating system based on ‘traffic lights’ to assess the performance of all 156 Local Authorities (PBT) across the country from next year.
The minister in question Nga Kor Ming said the system aims to improve the quality of service delivery and this initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure more accountability and transparency in local governance.
He said the new rating system will assess the performance of local authorities by offering clear benchmarks for improving service delivery.
“Under this ‘traffic light’ system, local authorities will be classified into three categories, namely green, yellow and red lights based on their performance,” he said in a statement after attending the 31st Sentuhan Kasih Program today.
Present with the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Malaysia, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, as Member of Parliament for Papar; and Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.
Nga said, PBT with high work performance will be labeled as green light and eligible to receive additional funding, yellow light is a warning with allocation subject to review.
He said the red light category may face funding cuts and future financial applications may be rejected.
However, he said the ministry will work with local authorities that do not achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to identify the cause of the problem and try to solve it.
Meanwhile, in the program, Nga announced the ministry’s allocation of RM13.2 million for public and socioeconomic infrastructure development projects in the Papar and Kimanis areas. – Named
