Laura Ludwig was denied the crowning glory at the German championships at the end of her career as a beach volleyball player. In the final on the Centre Court in Timmendorfer Strand on the Baltic Sea, the Rio Olympic champion and her partner Louisa Lippmann from Hamburger SV lost 0:2 (15:21, 18:21) to the European champions and defending champions Svenja Müller (Hamburg) and Cinja Tillmann (Düsseldorf). Ludwig missed out on her eighth German championship title, but was celebrated extensively by the more than 4,000 spectators. Müller and Tillmann, on the other hand, triumphed for the third time in a row.
