GENEVA, OCT 11 – Lebanon is facing a humanitarian crisis that is extremely devastating and indescribable as Israel continues to launch air and ground attacks, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Lebanon, the agency reported. Anatolia.
MSF medical coordinator Luna Hammad said that more than a million people have been displaced by bombing and violence, including in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley and areas south of Beirut.
“Many are now living in crowded and dirty conditions.
“Basic needs such as clean water, food and hygiene facilities that are important to prevent disease outbreaks are also difficult to obtain,” said Hammad.
Lebanon lacks the capacity to deal with this crisis, which has worsened due to economic problems, the Beirut explosion in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Israel is also targeting health workers and infrastructure, making the situation even more complicated.
A total of 800 shelters and schools were opened to accommodate the displaced, but many are still seeking shelter.
Doctors Without Borders is trying to provide medical aid but faces security obstacles.
He emphasized the importance of health teams moving freely in Lebanon and called for international assistance, including financial and logistical support.
