Loss of more than RM200,000 due to non-existent investment

SIBU, 22 OCT – A local man suffered a loss of RM202,000 after being deceived by a non-existent investment offer received through the WhatsApp application early last month.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the victim, aged in his 50s, had received an order through the application from a representative of an investment company offering huge profits.

“A representative of an investment company has offered an investment with a large profit from the Boci International Investment Club company, making the victim interested in participating in the investment,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkipli said the victim was then included in a group on the WhatsApp application, which discussed investments and the victim was also asked to download an application that was used as a platform for the investment.

“Beginning from September 26 to October 11, 2024, the victim has transferred money 13 times totaling RM202,000 into three local bank accounts,” he explained.

Zulkipli said on October 21, the victim contacted the suspect again to ask about the withdrawal of the profit that had been earned, but the suspect gave various reasons.

Following that, the victim who felt suspicious and deceived decided to make a police report on the same day for further action. – Named
