Beach volleyball player Laura Ludwig has her eighth German championship title in sight at her last appearance on the sand. Together with her partner Louisa Lippmann from HSV, the Rio Olympic champion won her semi-final on the Centre Court in Timmendorfer Strand with 2:0 (22:20, 21:13) against Karla Borger and Lea Sophie Kunst. Opponents in Ludwig’s farewell match on Sunday (3 p.m.) are the defending champions Svenja Müller from Hamburg and Cinja Tillmann from Düsseldorf.

The European champions had previously beaten Sandra Ittlinger/Kim van de Velde 2-0 (22-20, 21-14). However, the favorites squandered an 11-8 lead in the first set and even had to fend off a set point shortly afterwards.

In the men’s competition, Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler also continued their winning streak on the way to a possible third title in a row. The Olympic silver medalists won 2-0 (21:17, 21:14) against Yannik Ahr/Luis Henrichs in the round of the best eight teams and are in the semifinals, which will take place on Sunday (11 a.m.). Their opponents are Jonathan Erdmann/Nejc Zemljak. In the second game, Philipp Konstantin Huster/Lui Wüst and Max Just/Robin Sowa will face each other in a Hamburg duel.
