Lyft driver takes off with woman’s young child in vehicle after argument, police say

AKRON, Ohio — A 52-year-old Lyft driver is facing a kidnapping charge after police say he got into an argument with a female customer, then sped off with her toddler child still in the car after she got out.

The nearly 2-year-old girl was found unharmed after the suspect drove to a fire station on East Archwood Boulevard in East Akron with the child, police say. The suspect, Steven Moore, was taken into custody at the fire station without incident.

According to police, officers were called to the intersection of Arlington Street and Triplett Boulevard on Friday. They were met by a “frantic” 25-year-old woman who said she had argued with Moore about the ride.

Police say Moore pulled the vehicle over and the woman got out. He then sped off with the woman’s daughter still in the backseat.

Moore also has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer found a “drug instrument” during a search of his vehicle, police say.
