Maguire saved United’s 3-3 draw at Porto

PORTO, OCT 4 – Manchester United avoided another humiliating defeat as substitute Harry Maguire headed in a stoppage-time equalizer to salvage a 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League yesterday.

“We started the game very well, we dominated, we scored two good goals but then we lost control,” said Ten Hag after United led Porto 2-0.

“The middle wasn’t good and then we finished really well with the equaliser, so it was good for our morale,” he added.

United started well when Christian Eriksen fed Marcus Rashford, who showed great footwork to break into the area before beating goalkeeper Diogo Costa with a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net in the seventh minute.

Eriksen was also involved in the second 13 minutes later, as he started a move in the middle before finding Rashford to help Rasmus Højlund, who fired home his first goal of the season.

But Porto bounced back immediately as Pepê and Samu headed in within seven minutes of each other to equalize before the break.

Five minutes into the second half saw Pepê produce a cross from the right for fellow striker Samu to score his second goal to put United ahead 3-2.

But Maguire headed home a corner in the first minute of stoppage time to rescue a point for United. – AP
