ATLANTA, Georgia — Coca-Cola has called it a day with its Spiced flavor, less than a year after it was introduced as a “permanent” addition.

The company released a statement to CBS News saying it is phasing out Spiced but plans to introduce an “exciting new flavor” next year. Spiced was on the market for about seven months.

“We’re always looking at what our customers like and adjusting our range of products,” a spokesperson said.

According to CNN, the company did not say why it was pulling the Spiced flavor, but “lack of awareness of the new offering and confusion about the flavor (it wasn’t actually spicy) probably contributed to lackluster sales.” It reportedly was targeted toward Gen-Z drinkers.

Coke also is cutting its Cherry Vanilla flavor and Diet Coke with Splenda, CNN reports. Among the “permanent” Coke flavors are Cherry and Vanilla Coke.

Coca-Cola remains the dominant soda in the U.S. with a 19.8% market share, well-ahead of second-place Dr Pepper (8.34%) and third-place Pepsi (8.31%).
