Man charged with murder in Wichita caught in Mexico

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man who had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in Wichita was caught in Mexico by U.S. Marshals on Wednesday.

Eric Gonzalez-Gutierrez was arrested on July 16 and charged with fatally shooting Aron Lara, 28, at a barbecue on Father’s Day. He was subsequently released on bond. On July 21, he cut his ankle monitor, which violated the terms of his pre-trial agreement.

The Wichita Police Department said U.S. Marshals apprehended Gonzalez-Gutierrez in Mexico.

“The Wichita Police Department has continued to work with our federal law enforcement partners in the search for Eric. Details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest are currently limited. We are working closely with the U.S. Marshals Service to facilitate his extradition back to Wichita, Kansas,” a news release from the WPD said.
